Jacques Rogge, presidente do Comitê Olímpico Internacional, (COI) anunciou hoje que Cingapura sediará a primeira edição dos Jogos Olímpicos de Verão da Juventude, que acontecerão em 2010.
O belga revelou a decisão do COI sobre a primeira sede destes jogos durante um ato realizado no Museu Olímpico de Lausanne (Suíça), onde agradeceu a todas as cidades candidatas por seu desejo de receberem esta competição, que reunirá cerca de 3.200 atletas de 14 a 18 anos.
O Comitê Executivo do COI decidiu anteriormente escolher Cingapura e Moscou como finalistas, após o relatório da Comissão de Avaliação sobre os projetos apresentados pelas duas localidades e por Atenas, Bangcoc e Turim, que também participaram da disputa. O programa deste evento compreenderá 26 esportes, além da implementação de projetos educacionais sobre os valores olímpicos e relatórios sobre os benefícios do esporte e os perigos do doping e da falta de atividade física.
